I'm sure most of you know by now but Liam Michael Crain came into the world on March 13th at 9:35 am. He was 7 pounds 12 ounces 20 3/4 inches long. I will give the short version of my birth story if you want more just ask.
I went to the doctor on Monday the 12th for my regular scheduled appointment, I was shocked to hear that I had preeclampsia. I was so shocked because I had massive swelling the last month or more of my pregnancy but every time my blood pressure was fine. The doctor told me I needed to go into the hospital that night to start the induction process. I left the doctor went and got a manicure and pedicure and went home to get ready. We arrived at the hopsital at 6:30 that night and got placed in a room. Around 9:30 that night the nurse got me hooked up on monitors and the doctor came in to give me a medicine to soften my cervix. She also gave me a sleeping pill. Around 12:30 that night the nurse came back in and I told her I was in a lot of pain she reassured me it was just the medicine and gave me another pill that was suppose to help with pain. All that medicine did was make me feel drunk and out of it. I was awake every 15 minutes after that in insane amounts of pain. It never occured to me that I was in labor because they had not started the pitocin. By the time the nurse came back at 6:30 that mornng I was in tears I was in so much pain. No one was acknowleding my pain and I was very out if it. The rest of the morning is a bit of a blur. I remember getting very frustarted because no one would check me then being told they had to run more blood work before I could have an epiderual and start the pitocin. I honestly don't remember much from there but I ended up having a c-section at 9:30 that morning. It was not at all how I pictured my labor but the important thing is that Liam came and was perfectly healthy and wonderful. We stayed in the hospital until Friday. I did not enjoy my hospital stay and will be going to St. Francis for our next baby ( a VERY long time from now!) but that is another story.
That is a very brief recap of our birth story. I will write a blog about our first 2 weeks at home soon. Here are some pictures from the hospital.
WOW, Allie! That is a distrubing story for you, and I am so sorry you had to experience something bad on the birth of your first child! Shame on that hospital for not paying attention to their patience, esp if having a baby. What does your OB say about all of this?
